Creating the vinyls for the helmet inspired by Captain Jane Skiles O’Dea for the Women of the Navy exhibit was a process that highlighted the intersection of historical accuracy and artistic craftsmanship. Working alongside Aircraft Restoration, the helmet was carefully disassembled for the application of vinyl designs honoring Captain O’Dea's legacy. The addition of the name "Judith" on the helmet, is tribute to the exhibit's original inspiration, the first historian of the ship after it became a museum. After applying the vinyls, Aircraft Restoration applied a protective clear coat and reassembled the helmet. This experience deepened my appreciation for the details involved in preserving and presenting naval history in museums, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts and attention to detail in creating exhibits that honor the contributions of women in the Navy.
